  Passion! I’m passionate about community engagement because we can’t change things at the macro level. Change happens in your local neighbourhood, town or city. No government is truly going to regulate Twitter and Facebook and undo the damage they have done to the public sphere and democracy. However, every time a council or other public body does a good online consultation it restores faith in democracy and public participation, it reignites participative democracy. It is at this level that I can make a difference, where change can happen.

  Ma passion pour l’engagement des communauté réside d’abord dans mon désir de voir de plus en plus de gens participer à la vie démocratique de leurs gouvernements, à tous les niveaux. Que la Ville de Montréal, QC ou la ville de Kingston, ON aient un espace privilégié depuis plus de 5 ans pour permettre à leurs citoyens de partager leurs idées et leurs opinions est un accomplissement génial!

Mon objectif est de les amener plus loin dans leur pratique de l’engagement des communautés, de les inviter à se dépasser et à entretenir de plus en plus de dialogue, pour, qu’en retour, les citoyens développent un intérêt à participer à la vie démocratique de leur ville, de leurs parcs nationaux, et de leur gouvernement.

  Enfin, travailler comme Practice Lead pour Bang the Table, c’est travailler avec des gens passionnés répartis partout au Canada et aux États-Unis, des gens qui ont à coeur le développement de leur communauté. Rare sont ceux qui le font par obligation - tous sont motivés par le bien-être de leur communauté. Nous formons, ensemble, une belle gang de passionnés!

  My passion for community engagement lies first and foremost in my desire to see more and more people participate in the democratic life of their governments, at all levels. Whether the City of Montreal, QC or the City of Kingston, ON has had a privileged space for more than 5 years to allow their citizens to share their ideas and opinions is a great accomplishment!

  More specifically in relation to my daily work as a Practice Lead, I am passionate about people and their ability to learn and improve. My goal is to take them further in their practice of community engagement, to challenge them to go beyond themselves and engage in more and more dialogue, so that in return, citizens develop an interest in participating in the democratic life of their city, their national parks, and their government.

  Finally, working as Practice Lead for Bang the Table means working with passionate people across Canada and the United States, people who care about the development of their communities. Few do it out of obligation - all are motivated by the well-being of their communities. Together, we're a great gang of passionate people!

  Authentic community engagement I feel, is the cornerstone of any democratic, healthy civil society. This is why I am really passionate about being able to help organizations give their citizens a voice to contribute meaningfully on issues that impact their lives in transparent, planned and accessible way.

  I have worked in the community engagement sector for over 20 year, and most recently in State and Local Government. I have a pretty good grasp and experience in some of the challenges orgaisations are likely to face in supporting and delivering engagement projects (both internally and externally.) I really enjoy helping at a strategic level and to improve the way organisations engage with their communities and to give a voice to people to improve their local city or community.
